Many years ago when I still worked in the corporate world, and felt totally overworked and trapped in the rat race, one of my close friends sent me the following text after I had cancelled dinner with him, because I needed to stay late at work preparing a presentation: „You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyoncé.“
First I thought „Yeah right! But this girl got a personal trainer, a manager, a cleaning woman, tons of staff etc.“ The more I thought about it the more it dawned on me what my friend wanted me to get. It’s all about setting priorities. For example me and doing sports. Every day I find the most perfect excuse why I don’t have time for it. The other day my good friend Ulli who is going to the gym every morning after the kids have left the house, said to me: „You really have to want it. If it’s important to you, you’ll find a way. If it’s not, you’ll find an excuse!“ Busted! Here we go! There she said it. Here’s the truth: I have to choose what is important for me. If I want something badly enough, I have to get up an hour earlier in the morning or shut the TV off in the evening.
We all have 24 hours a day. We all have the same amount of time as the people we look up to, but it’s only up to us how we choose what to do with them.
Over the years I got better and better in prioritizing my time. When I became a mom, I realized I have to juggle so many balls every day. Some days I can’t keep them all up in the air, and I know one ball will eventually drop. Luckily most of the times I get to choose which ball will drop. Or which ball is easier to fix back together at the end of the day.
Over the years I also learned that our work or business is, of course, important. But our close friends & family are more important. One lesson I learned is that people make time for who they want to make time for. People text, call and reply to people they want to talk to. Never believe anyone who says they are too busy. If they wanted to be around you, they would find a way to do so.
Have a great start into this week everyone. And please remember to make time for the people in your life who make you feel extra special. They are worth going the extra mile.
